Requirements for admission to National Honor Society:

At the end of the fall semester, the senior counselor will print a list of students whose cumulative average (weighted version) is above 90.

The academic requirements are: a 90 average in the following subjects—English, social studies, math, science, and foreign language. This is a career average—each semester average beginning with the first semester of the freshman year.

The faculty council and principals will review the eligible students’ leadership, character, and service qualifications before they are admitted to membership.

Notification of new members will probably occur in February.  All members will be recognized at the Awards Assembly in May.

Discipline and dismissal from membership:

Involvement in NHS is a privilege and not a right. Students must follow the Student Code of Conduct as well as the rules and procedures of the NHS constitution, which was approved by the school board in April of 2001. Violations will result in the following actions:

Members who fall below the grade standards will be given a warning in writing. That student will have one six weeks to make up these grades. After this time, the faculty council will decide whether or not the student will be put on probation for a semester or dismissed.

Each faculty member is responsible for reporting incidents of cheating to the faculty advisors. Cheating includes: copying another’s work, allowing someone else to copy, plagiarism as defined in the Student Handbook, using a teacher’s key without permission, selling answers, or any other incident that involves getting or giving answers dishonestly. On the first incident, the student and his parents will receive a warning letter. A second incident will place the student on a one-semester probation. A third incident in a calendar year will remove the student from membership. Once removed, that student can never again regain membership.

Incidents of major discipline will follow the same procedure, with the exception of the fact that flagrant violation of school or civil rules can result in immediate dismissal.
