TAKS
- The Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills
(TAKS) is a completely reconceived testing program. It assesses more of the
Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) than the Texas Assessment of
Academic Skills (TAAS) did
and asks questions in more authentic ways. TAKS has been developed to better
reflect good instructional practice and more accurately measure student
learning. We hope |
|
|
|
that every teacher and
parent will see the connection between what we test on this new state
assessment and what our students should know and be able to do to be
academically successful. |

TELPAS - In response to the federal
testing requirement of the No Child Left Behind
Act of 2001 (NCLB),the Texas Education Agency
(TEA) has developed an assessment system called TELPAS, the Texas English
Language Proficiency Assessment System. This system has two components: the Reading Proficiency Tests in
English (RPTE) and the Texas Observation Protocols (TOP). Both components are designed to
assess the progress that limited English proficient (LEP) students make in
learning the English language. Under NCLB, states’ English language
proficiency assessments must assess students annually in kindergarten through
twelfth grade in four language domains: listening, speaking, reading, and
writing. TOP assesses the following language domains. |
|
Grades K–2 listening,
speaking, reading, writing |
|
|
Grades 3–12 listening,
speaking, writing |
|
|
The domain of reading
in Grades 3–12 is assessed through RPTE. Together, RPTE and TOP provide
performance data used to fulfill NCLB reporting requirements. |

Explanation of TAKS™ Results - Understanding the
Confidential Student Report - A Guide for Parents |
|
|
Every child who takes a
TAKS™ test gets a report of his or her score. This report is called the
Confidential Student Report, or CSR. By carefully examining your child’s CSR,
you will find out where your child is doing well and where your child may
need to improve. The purpose of this brochure is to explain a sample test
report so that you can understand your child’s actual test report. |

TAKS™ Study Guides |
|
|
The TAKS™ Study Guides
are designed to help students strengthen the TEKS-based skills that are
taught in class and tested on TAKS™. The Guides are designed for students to
use on their own or for students and families to work through together.
Concepts are presented in a variety of ways that will help students review
