All HISD network users have access to the
H: drive. You can see this drive listed by double clicking on
My Computer on your desktop:

The name of the drive is
Hisd-share. If you double click
on the drive you will see the following:

There is a folder for
each campus, a folder
named HISD Shared
and other miscellaneous folders and files.
The main folders are as follows:
Aikman
Bluebonnet
Central Office
CT&E
HJH
HHS
HISD Shared
Northwest
Stanton
Technology
Tierra Blanca
West Central
HISD Share Several folders reside
inside each campus folder: PowerPoint, PhotoStory, UnitedStreaming, Lesson Plans, etc.
Everyone has view rights to all folders.
Also, you have read, write, erase, and modify rights to your campus folder.
You can not save files to campus folders other than your campus folder. However, you can copy the files
from a folder into your campus folder or to your I:\ drive. NOTE: you cannot share the contents on your
I:\ drive with others because no one except you has rights to your personal I:\ drive.
Another folder exists named HISD Shared. This is a permanent folder that can be shared
district wide. You can create folders inside the HISD Shared folder (ie: PowerPoint) and
anyone within the district can save files to this folder or copy files from
this folder. The folder will be useful for United streaming videos that have already been
downloaded within the district, for lesson plans to share, for Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, etc.
EXAMPLE: A teacher at Bluebonnet has created a Photo Story presentation that may be
useful to other teachers in the district. She should save it to a folder named PhotoStory in the Bluebonnet
folder. This file can now be used by any network
user at Bluebonnet. If the file will also be useful to other campus
personnel she should also save the file to a folder named PhotoStory in the HISD Shared folder.
EXAMPLE: If you need a Power Point presentation for Martin Luther King, Jr....you can check the
HISD Share folder and the folders for each campus for a presentation that has already been created.
If you are adding a file to the the H: drive please remember to organize. If you want to share a video
from United Streaming and there is no folder for Videos or United Streaming, please create the folder
and save your file inside it.
If you save files to ANY of the folders on the H: drive please be sure it has a descriptive name.
As an example, if you save a Halloween Power Point please give it a name like Halloween_Night.ppt rather
than MyHalppt.ppt.
Note: The H: drive is not intended to be used as your storage area. If you have a file that
you want to save because you may need it someday and it would not be useful to others, please save the
file to your I: drive, not the H: drive. The H: drive is strictly for useful and meaningful files that
can be shared with others within the district.
Note: The H: drive also contains a file named mailbox.pab . This is the HISD
e-mail address book. |
